Lucy has arrived

Well, our little Lucy ( her full name is Lucy Binn Cara, which means "light sweet friend" in gaelic) came home with us last Saturday, all 3lbs. of her! The ride was about an hour long and the breeder had taken all of the puppies in for shots and deworming only one day before. Lucy is the "runt" of the litter and the vaccines really took their tole. She only slept, wouldn't eat or drink. We were getting pretty worried and Kraig went to get the same brand of puppy food that the breeder had (Science Diet), and some milk replacer and little bottles just in case. By bedtime there was some improvement , and by the next day, a huge transformation. Now, each day she is more active and has a good appetite. Her littermates are much bigger, I would say she is about 2wks behind them in development. But with two litters totaling 12 puppies, she didn't have much of a chance to catch up. The breeder hand fed her when she was born and for about 3wks.
It's great to have her, she is a sweet and playful little girl. Katy is adjusting as well as can be expected for an 11yr old dog; we make sure she gets plenty of play and attention as well. Right now, Lucy takes a lot of naps which gives me time for Katy.
I realize most of the blogs have been Sheltie oriented, I will try to do more variety. But right now it is hard to "see beyond now" with a cute little puppy face in front of me!
